[WONDERWALL] - The latest group exhibition I participated in Hong Kong, organized by @wonderwall.today. I was approached by @yumanng and @alexxandercheng_ a few weeks ago, that they were interested to do a mini showcase of artwork and prints they have been collecting throughout the years, and they would like to exhibit a series of work that they found interesting. Using the idea of “wall”, as a way to connect artists from different backgrounds. It was actually fairly embarrassing, because I don’t normally paint canvases, so when they called I told them I didn't have any canvases to showcase. In order to kick me out of my comfort zone, they said ok and will organize a canvas for me, while I thought it’s gonna be a regular sized canvas, they ended up building a canvas wall for me. Lol
About the mural, inspired by their name “WONDERWALL”, I wanted to do something that can both resonate with their ideas as well as its name. Named “DON’T LOOK BACK IN ANGER”, drawn from my personal experiences and realizations of the concept of letting go of the past and moving forward. Painted in three layers, from left to right, in gradient, depict a snow leopard slowly turning its head and closing its eyes, representing the idea of letting go of the past, and it’s finally time to move forward, without hatred and anger. Our past was essentially what shaped us into who we are, and we shall be eternally grateful for it. The mural essentially celebrates the courage required to face the future while embracing the past. The mural aims to deliver a subtle emotion of sorrow, yet a sense of realization and enlightenment also embedded within. Stepping out from our self imposed shadow of the past and embracing ourselves, our past, our presence, once again.
